RD Report

Digital <> Physical. When both exist, which is given the priority, attention, and by extension value?

Here's an interesting contextual combination.

During a 1:1 conversation at ArtMeta's Digital Art Mile here at Basel, Redbeard posed a question to artist Tyler Hobbs. With such attention to physical detail within (half of) his 'Day Gardens' collection, how does he think about the digital / physical relationship?

The prompt seemed destined for physical prioritization within that half of the collection and yet Tyler's initial reply was simple: "digital comes first".

Further, when exploring the 'Day Garden' collection today on secondary market, I was curious about the metadata. Although half of the digital collection has physical counterparts, this is obscured. Simply, it is a 1/1/51 collection. Each piece is represented in the same fashion.

I'm not offering a conclusion or opinion here. I have a great deal of respect for digital and physical, as well as artists playing at their intersection.

Rather, I'm intrigued by individual case studies of how artists see it.

New Series: Weekly Dose of ART

You may know Justin Wetch as my partner on daily ART designs. If that is the case, you'll understand that he is one hell of an artist and technical wizard.

Did you also know that he is an author?

Welcome to his new series of articles, launched with 24 Hours of Art and part of our mission to make the new 24H X account an even more exciting place to be.

The first features artist Connor Grasso. Read it here.

Today Reported:
Sales thresholds of 5 ETH+ Collection, 0.5 ETH+ 1/1, 1 ETH+ 1/1/X, and 0.5 ETH+ Edition

Under Threshold...

...but interesting to me is 'Hamster Ball' by perfectl00p selling for 0.33 ETH to brinkman. Technical nostalgia meets technical precision. Satisfying art. GIF must be watched to appreciate (linked above).
