Contemporary Video Game
'Zantar' by Mitchell F. Chan sells for $300,000 USD to a private collector via Nguyen Wahed.
Shown at the 'Insert Coin(s)' Exhibition at Nguyen Wahed, it is the fully playable video game centerpiece of a series of interactive artworks, 'The Zantar Triptych'.
The game is framed by a story of technology's impact on a young man's life. In the words of artist Mitchell F. Chan, if art has a duty “it is to render visible the conditions in the world which are ubiquitous but otherwise invisible".
Via Mimi Nguyen of Nguyen Wahed: “It’s exciting when collectors embrace gaming as artistic medium, recognising its potential to truly transform how we experience and participate in contemporary art.”
The first interactive artwork collection in the Triptych - 'Overture' - debuts on Thursday with Art Blocks and OpenSea.
