Hivemind Acquires Operator X-ray Machine

Hivemind Digital Culture Fund acquires Operator's 1/1 large scale X-ray Machine and artist-minted Human Unreadable #124 for $285,000 USD.

The half-ton, 2+ meter tall, steel and tempered glass sculpture will be the only one created at this scale, outside of an artist proof.

The sculpture unites ACT I (token) and ACT II (choreographic score) of the 'Human Unreadable' collection, presenting the blockchain-native performance as a 360-degree visual experience. Instead of screens, it relies on fifteen floating glass sheets, custom electronics, and shifting fields of light. Together they produce an x-ray, revealing the choreography behind the algorithm.

Via Operator:
"Seeing this sculpture collected by the Hivemind Digital Culture Fund is wonderful because we share the vision of amplifying digital art and culture. The partnership gives this work, which started as a dream in our minds, a platform to reach new scales and audiences and expand the public’s imaginary of what they think digital and generative art can be, the forms it can take."

Via Matt Zhang, Hivemind Founder:
"As collectors, we’re drawn to works that push the boundaries of how digital art can be experienced and preserved on the blockchain. X-ray Machine – Human Unreadable #124 takes a conceptual generative performance and translates it into a sculpture powered by light and movement, creating a new form of collectible on-chain media."

The sculpture will be on display at the Toledo Museum of Art from July 10th through November 30th.

Operator becomes the ninth artist to enter the Hivemind Digital Culture Fund collection. Also entering the collection is a complete set of Human Unreadable NFTs, representing the six Emotional Climate traits.

Eyes Open

'Open Eyes' by Jake Fried sells for 50 ETH ($130,815 USD) to Austin Grier via AOTM Gallery.

The artwork is a hand-drawn animation with ink and white-out, presented in a 1-minute loop containing sound design by Fried.

It is the 10th 1-of-1 created by Fried, with Grier becoming the 8th unique collector (VVD owns three).

Via Austin Grier:
"Unbelievably excited to add this today. A true grail from an incredible artist."

Flowers Bloom Again

An artwork's journey in three stages:

'Flowers in Bloom' 1/1 by Emily Xie was released in 2022 with Unit London, presenting an algorithm that produced a handmade aesthetic, challenging "the cold roboticism of its own medium". The artwork would go on to sell to the AOI Collection for 55 ETH ($144,052 USD).

On May 4th of this year, the artwork was re-sold for 2.32 WETH ($4,260 USD).

Just over two months later, the artwork sells again for 21 ETH ($54,700 USD) to BatSoupYum, brokered by Eli Scheinman through Gondi.

Via BatSoupYum:
"Apparently I missed the memo that gen art is dead. Oops."

RD Report

We live for these kinds of days.

It is the absolute full spectrum of art and art market. Digital and physical. Primary and secondary. Galleries and funds and private collectors. Collection builds and unwinds.

Hivemind continues to impress with how they operate as a Fund, laser focused on who and how they collect. Once they do, they make every effort to be additive to the artist and artwork presentation. At this point, we have seen Funds of all shapes, sizes, and styles. This is best in class.

The GFunk / coldgg collection continues to unwind, and many of today's 1/1 sales originate from it. A few of these may follow a similar trajectory to the Emily Xie artwork journey that closed its loop from the AOI Collection.
